HELLGRAV were formed in autumn 2021 in Grefrath, Oedt – a small village on the Lower Rhine – and describe their musical style as “Rotten Death Metal”. Although the quartet is deeply rooted in Swedish death metal, they also like to venture into American territory from time to time. Here, frenzied riffs and wild frenzy meet dark melodies and bone-crushing grooves.
With their debut album “Dehumanized”, HELLGRAV unleash a merciless assault on the ears and cement their position as one of the most exciting newcomer bands on the death metal scene. Their EP “Rottomatic”, released back in 2022, was already a must-listen for fans of raw death metal, but now the Viersen-based band are following it up with a full-on barrage.
The entire album is a wrecking ball like no other. The songs charge relentlessly forward, with the band striking an impressive balance between brutality and catchiness. The characteristic HM2 sound sets itself apart from the currently popular Gothenburg-style melodic death metal, drawing instead on the legacy of Sweden’s pioneers of raw, unvarnished death metal.
