Despondent Chants was founded in 2002 by brothers Miguel and Carlos Medina.
In the middle of 2003 the band performed live for the first time and received a very good response from the audience. The first demo entitled: "Forgotten Roses on my Grave" was recorded in 2004. The band played in different places in Peru and received good reviews for their performance on stage. In March 2006 they were invited to the "Iquique Metal Fest" (Chile). Their second demo called "The Lingering Silence" was released in April 2010, after which they played in different shows such as "Lima Metal Fest" and recently "The Final Ceremony" (Chile) with bands such as Nocturnus AD, Unleashed, Carach Angren, Abismal Dawn and others. Also at several editions of "In nomine Doom" and "Incas Metal Fest", etc., just to name a few. During this time, new songs were composed and arranged, until September 2015, when the band entered the recording studios "Dragon Verde" with a new line-up, and in 2018 released the first full-length album entitled "The Eyes of Winter", which contains 8 songs. With more than 20 years of activity, the band is still considered the most important act within the Peruvian Doom Death Metal.
